About Texas Offenders Re-entry Initiative (T.O.R.I.)
Founded in December 2004 by Bishop T.D. Jakes, under the umbrella of the Metroplex Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), a nonprofit 501(c) (3) organization that bridges economic voids in urban America, T.O.R.I. is an intensive 12-month case management program that offers six core services that the majority of formerly incarcerated clients need, including: employment, housing, education, family reunification, health care and spiritual guidance. Since its inception, T.O.R.I. has served more than 7,000 formerly incarcerated individuals who have returned home to Texas.

Bishop T. D. Jakes, senior pastor of The Potter’s House was recognized with an Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Lone Star Chapter for a segment that featured the Texas Offenders Re-entry Initiative (T.O.R.I.). The annual awards gala was held last fall at Cowboys Stadium, where Jakes along with a team of producers and writers, won big in the category of Public/Current/Community Affairs – Feature/Segment.
While T. D. Jakes served as the executive producer, the award was a collaborative effort for co-executive producer, Tony Scott of The Potter’s House; producer, Sara Madsen Miller and writer, Bryan Pierre with 1820 Productions; and T.O.R.I. executive director, Tina Naidoo also a member of Jakes’ staff.

The 2012 awards program was attended by more than 600 people who celebrated the evening on the field at Cowboys Stadium.
