Viola Davis to Play Shirley Chisholm,  Can’t Wait!!!

Shirley Chisholm is quite proud I am sure looking down from heaven and realizing that Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis is gearing up to tell the story of this great groundbreaking politician, a film that will be presented by Amazon.

The company said Thursday that Davis has signed on to star in and produce the project about Chisholm, who was the first black woman ever elected to the United States Congress and the first woman to seek the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination.

A Brooklyn-based Congresswoman. Shirley Chisholm, the first African-American woman elected to Congress.  She represented  the 12th District in the House of Representatives from 1969 to 1983 a series of firsts, Shirley Chisholm was also  the first black person and woman to run a serious, high-profile campaign in the U.S. presidential primary. She made further history when she vied for the presidency in 1972. And while her inspiring journey would have made headlines today, it was virtually ignored by the mainstream media at the time.” died in 2005 at age 80.

Maggie Betts will direct Davis in “The Fighting Shirley Chisholm” off of a screenplay from “Silicon Valley” writer Adam Countee.

The Hollywood trade website Deadline first reported the news.
