Sheila E. Kicks Off 2nd Annual Prince Celebration In Minneapolis

CHANHASSEN, MN – Saturday marks two years since the passing of the iconic artist Prince, but at Paisley Park this week there’s a Celebration going on, even in the wake of the news breaking today that no charges will be filed in his death. The second annual started today at his famous Paisley Park complex in the Minneapolis suburb of Chanhassen, the place where he worked and sadly, died, on April 21, 2016.
The news about the circumstances of his death today didn’t put a damper on the celebration of his life. The four-day event, through Sunday night, includes performances, exclusive concert video showings, panels on everything from photography to dance to the early years of the Minneapolis sound and a special show “Prince: Live On The Big Screen” that features Prince concert footage accompanied by a live band composed of his musical collaborators. (A similar show is done with Elvis footage at Graceland. The two complexes are both managed by Graceland Holdings.)
This year, his longtime collaborator, Sheila E., who played on some of Prince’s most acclaimed recordings and toured with him on several tours, was the event’s kickoff performer. Sheila, born Sheila Escovedo to the Latin jazz great Pete Escovedo, was well-known in that community but gained more mainstream fame through her collaborations with Prince, and her solo album The Glamorous Life.
