Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer is will be starring in a new drama thriller called Are You Sleeping.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the series is based off a book called Are You Sleeping by Kathleen Barber.
Based off a true story, the crime drama looks at America’s fascination with crime podcasts. “It challenges viewers to consider the consequences when the pursuit of justice is put on a public stage.”
Nichelle Tramble Spellman who’s worked with the shows Good Wife and Justified created the piece and will write the script.
Actress Reese Witherspoon will executive produce the show with Lauren Neustadter, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Kristen Campo.
The series will be the first development project for the company Apple.
Spencer is known for her work in the blockbuster hit films The Help, a film based on Black women as hired help in the 50’s. She played Minny Jackson. She’s also known for her 2016 film, Hidden Figures a film based on the true story of three African-America women who were responsible for helping NASA in the 60’s. She played Dorothy Vaughn.
