NAACP Image Awards 2015 aired recently on TV and it was definitely a “Blackish” and “Empire” night.

It appears that ABC’s hit series “Black-ish” did a sweep of the awards night, winning all of its categories with Anthony Anderson winning outstanding actor and Tracee Ellis Ross winning outstanding actress.

The night also belonged to Fox hit television series  “Empire” with Taraji P. Henson winning Entertainer of the year not only for her great portrayal of “Cookie” on the hit show but also  acknowledged as best actress for her role in “No Good Deed” which also starred Idris Elba.

Rightfully so, “Selma” star David Oyelowo, won Best Actor award for his portrayal of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr in the oscar nominated biopic.  “Selma” also won Outstanding Motion Picture.

Congratulations to all the nominees and winners of this year’s NAACP Image Awards! this was, by the way the only awards show that I support this year other than the Trumpet Awards  which will air also on TV-One on February 21, 2015.  I am in protest mode this year in recognition of  Oscar failure to recognize people of color in the film industry

I think Spike Lee said it best, “This stuff is Rigged”

An acclaimed Writer-Director, Actor, Producer and Author Spike Lee was presented with this year’s President’s Award.

This award was  chosen by NAACP President and CEO Cornell William Brooks, is bestowed in recognition of special achievement and distinguished public service

During his acceptance speech Lee highlighted the struggle African Americans continuously face in Hollywood saying, “We got to keep going you know, it’s a tough business. I used to say it’s a tough M Effin’ business.”

He later added, “This stuff is rigged. It’s not set up for us to win. It’s always been like that since we were stolen from mother Africa more than 400 years. We always find to make a way.”
