The Churchladyblogs was honored to be invited to cover the Red Carpet for the Premiere screening of  Harriet recently held in DC.  Here is a recap of the event:

First of all, let me just say that it was a CLASS ACT affair!  Not only was our staff smitten by Red Carpet treatment offered to the stars, we were also very much impressed with the hospitality extended to the press, the venue selected to showcase this masterpiece to an exclusive audience, was none other than at the Smithsonian National African American Museum of History and Culture, In DC,  the best and most fitting venue to showcase a compelling story of a woman laced in the courageous faith and touched by God.

The second thing that impressed us was the number of stars who showed up and was more than welcomed to speak to us, Chile our time was limited, so we chose to talk to the Tony Award Winning, Cynthia, Erivo who portrays Harriet and the film’s brilliant director, Kasi Lemmons (Luke Cage, Talk to Me) who also wrote the screenplay along with Gregory Allen Howard (Remember the Titans)

After these interviews, we were really excited to see the movie, and it absolutely did not disappoint one bit.  Now without giving the storyline away:

HARRIET tells the true story of Harriet Tubman’s escape from slavery and ensuing freeing of over 300 slaves, with the guidance of GOD and her heroic faith-fueled expedition – earning her the iconic nickname of “Moses.” The film includes a star-studded cast including Tony Award-winner, Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr., Joe Alwyn, Janelle Monáe, Jennifer Nettles, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Clarke Peters, Henry Hunter Hall, Zackary Momoh, Vondie Curtis-Hall, and Omar Dorsey.

Finally, before the night ended, we were offered one more surprise, An After talk hosted by April Ryan ( you know the sistah who don’t hold back on 45) with Kasi Lemmons, Leslie Odom Jr., and Cynthia Erivo, which was amazing, to say the least.

I guess by now you already know that I am going to tell you that this is definitely a MUST SEE film.  Every person in this exclusive audience stood up at the end of the film, clapping and crying with pride.  It’s something you want to drag your grandchildren to see! Don’t want to wait in line, they even got this link where you can purchase your tickets before the opening, Chile, I told you this is a class ACT rolling out, Harriet.  Highest accolades to the team that produced this event!
