Gospel Music Review Spotlight for the month of  January will be on:

Dayla- The R&B Hummingbird! based out of Huntsville, Alabama.

Dayla is a multi-talented artistic tour de force. Born in San Diego California Dayla’s first love was theater. She starred in numerous local and school productions as a budding thespian conducted epic one woman shows that enabled her to raise money to attend the renowned Oakwood University. An avid writer she composed several poems, plays, and was a member of the acclaimed Aeolians singing group. However, performing gave way to reality a full academic workload and working 2 to 3 jobs full time. On the surface it paid off, she earned honors with in a dual degree in communications and history. While she would become a successful serial entrepreneur, the performer in her was dying to re-emerge and music in her spirit kept calling her.
Finally, on faith she kindled that small voice within and began her journey back to herself; writing, composing, producing and creating. Drawing on her tumultuous upbringing and lifelong experiences overcoming unimaginable trials of this world bent on destroying her soul, she forges hope, redemption, and love into a bridge of faith (a testimony) catalyzing listeners to live their dreams and employ their God given talents to make a difference no matter what challenges or obstacles exist.

Dayla combines the powerful yet tender inspiration and charisma, with the heart-string honesty and poet-ship, a majestic “quiet fire” passion and a final dash of brazen, “heartbroken” soul for good measure. With a writer’s relentless commitment to her lyrics her sound is a fusion of hip hop, contemporary gospel, neo-soul, and classic soul and r&b.

The song Saved By Grace represents the culmination of Dayla’s artistic and spiritual rebirth and return to true self. The song was written nearly two years ago after working with a women’s harmony group on a song for a funeral for the tragic death of a 4 year old child. The women’s group reached our to Dayla who also arranges, coaches, and produces to work on a Christmas project following the success of their tribute song. These sessions with the harmony group inspired her to write her own holiday Christian outreach song. The lyrics of the song were finalized over the Christmas holidays of 2010 in a midnight writing session her husband sitting in their car in an Atlanta Kroger parking lot. And there the song sat parked due to time commitment of raising her son; buried under the fear, lack of confidence, resources, and inexperience of mass recording, releasing, and marketing a song of this nature….until now!!! Despite a very difficult pregnancy and still lacking the resources and know how she decided just over a month ago to record and release the song during this holiday season; where she believes it would have the most impact to touch people’s lives.

After submitting a craigslist ad she was to identify and work with outstanding vocalist and musicians for the song. With the time factor it was nearly impossible to find a reasonable studio or any studio for the matter to record. But He made it happen and the outstanding Daniel Beard recorded, engineered, mixed, and mastered the song in a matter of days. The song has been submitted for release through ReverbNation for digital distribution but is now immediately available on Dayla’s website www.reverbnation.com/dayla. At this time of the year what often gets lost is the message of hope and eternal gift that our Savior sacrificed to give us and the his unconditional love and the grace he extends to us over our sin so that we may know him and build a relationship with our heavenly father. Saved By Grace pulls you to the greatest gift of the season his grace upon our lives.
