Gospel Music: BET Celebration of Gospel Recap

Gospel Music: BET’s Celebration of Gospel Recap brought to you by EEW magazine:

If Stellar Award-winning recording artist and “The Sheards” reality TV star, Kierra Sheard, ever grows tired of singing, perhaps she might consider a job as an entertainment correspondent.

The lively 25-year-old brought fun, laughs, and charisma to the 2013 BET “Celebration of Gospel” red carpet.

As gospel music best known stars converged upon the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, CA Saturday, March 16 for BET’s 13th annual show, they were met with an enthusiastic host.

“I’m trying to be like you. How am I doing?” Sheard asked legendary television veteran Dr. Bobby Jones. “Oh, you’re above me,” he laughed graciously and told her, “You’re doing great. You look super!”

Apparently, the fashion forward heiress to the Clark dynasty impressed more than just Dr. Jones.

Celebrated recording artist, radio personality, and entrepreneur Yolanda Adams told young Ms. Sheard, “I’m loving the purple lipstick,” admiring the splash of color she added to her pout for a fresh, bold look. “I’ve gotta do that.”

While there were many amusing and exciting moments, the evening’s host employed a bit of cheeky humor when she interviewed her mother, Karen Clark Sheard, with whom she also performed on the main stage.

“I am such a fan of you. I mean, you are like, Ms. Karen Clark Sheard—a legendary Clark sister,” she said, to which her mom replied with faux enthusiasm, “Wow! Thank you sweetie. I’m so honored to have you as my daughter!”

The “Bold Right Life” youth organization founder also enjoyed playful back-and-forth banter with her “beautiful” aunt, Dorinda Clark Cole who chuckled.

While many of the singers, songwriters and producers that gospel lovers enjoy were on hand for the taping, there was person for whom Sheard expressed particularl admiration: Israel Houghton.

“Can I say, I’m like—I’m your number one fan?” she told the worship leader. “This record is absolutely amazing, Jesus at the Center…and like every praise team in the world…we sing all of your songs.”
