I am sure you have all heard by now that Pastor Creflo Dollar has joined the bandwagon of raising monies GoFundMe style.

He is seeking 200,000 people committed to sow $300 or more to help achieve the church’s goal to purchase a G650 airplane.

World Changers is no stranger to owning a plane, the last one purchased allegedly in 1984 allowed Pastor Dollar to travel millions of miles spreading the gospel globally.

Hence, according to several World Changers members that I have spoken to,  this is not  unreasonable at all  for their pastor to make this request, as the church realizes their current plane is over 30 years old and is malfunctioning.

Many members were amazed at all the media attention surrounding this issue and when I explained that I believe it is the astronomical price of the plane that is causing the uproar and when I asked  why such an expensive plane?

According to a source, “Why not?”  The Catholic church owns several planes, cathedrals gold and silver, yet when a black church has the tenacity to do such, it is a problem. ”  As long as we are operating like a Mom and Pop shop everything is fine, yet when we step up our game and use today’s technology to reach the thousands of members, partners and supporters whose lives this man touches, it’s a shame!” Further, World Changers is a debt free church we don’t believe in buying anything on credit!”

I answered that many people are shocked that a Pastor would ask for such a large donation publicly and if they could please shed some light on why take such a public stance on the G650 campaign.

“Pastor Dollar demands transparency in the church and he does not operate in secrecy with his congregation like many pastors. So it makes sense because of his internet and global ministry that he not only make an announcement in the church but also use today’s technology and create a website to allow all of World Changers members partners and supporters to be able to donate, so the intent was not to ask for public donations.”

In addition to making an announcement in church and creating a special website, Creflo Dollar Ministries posted a six-minute video on the Creflo Dollar Ministries website. The request goes in detail about how the jet will be used to transport Creflo and Taffi Dollar as well as members of Dollar’s church around the globe.

On the video, Creflo Dollar explains a couple of incidents involving his current jet including engine failure while en-route to Australia and mechanical failure that caused the jet to skid off the runway in London while his family was onboard.

Creflo Dollar attributed his family’s safe arrival to “a grace working on that airplane, that brought my girls back home to me, you understand what I am saying?”

Creflo Dollar said that after those incidents, he “knew that it was time to begin to believe God for a new airplane.”

The Gulfstream G650 would comfortably allow the ministry make its way around the world. It seats up to 14 passengers with berthing for six, according to The jet comes with two Rolls-Royce engines, high-speed Internet and two multichannel satellites and allows for a 2½-hour commute from New York to Los Angeles.

“The G650 is the biggest, fastest, most luxurious, longest range and most technologically advanced jet — by far,” according to the site.

Speaking of transparency, after such a huge social media backlash, the web page from Creflo Dollar Ministries soliciting $65 million for a new Gulfstream G650 jet was removed from its website but despite the disappearance of the “Project G650” page from the Creflo Dollar Ministries page, supporters are still able to donate to the project via the ministry’s donations page

Not sure how long this video will be up but here is one I found on You Tube:

After viewing the video one does get a sense that the campaign strategy was to allow anyone to donate (public).

My take on this story is this:  While I get that the church conducts global ministry on a consistent basis, has had a plane for over 20 years, that is malfunctioning and needs replaced, World Changers Church clearly can afford a plane as it has maintained one for this long without any public support, I get and support all of that, but what I don’t get is why not buy a plane that  the church can afford!  Come on now this is a purchase that only those in the Billionaires club can afford to make.

It appears World Changers has not quite prospered enough yet to financially afford a 65 million dollar plane, if it could, they would not be seeking public donations.  Hence, like my Mama always said, “Don’t ever bite off more than you can chew, chile!”

My final thought:  wouldn’t this have been a great story to tell if Creflo Dollar put this same message out asking the public to support him in raising 65 million dollars that would include  purchasing a more affordable plane (10-15 million)   and using the balance to  help World Changers  members and supporters around the globe by dispersing the other 45-50 million to help their families and business ventures prosper.  In doing such, not only Creflo Dollar and the staff could benefit from the 65 million dollar investment, but also World Changers members and supporters.

Who knows, with that kind of money being invested into the congregation and its supporters, maybe one day the members and supporters of World Changers congregation could really  afford to buy the church a 65 million dollar plane through their tithes and offerings.

Take a look at a sample of what $65 million dollars is going to support:
