Black Student Allegedly Tied To Lamppost By White Students And Whipped
The headline is just as devastating to read out loud as it is in your head. Even worse, school officials in Bath, England are refusing to expel the group responsible.
According to The Huffington Post, the group of white students allegedly tied their Black classmate to a lamppost and began beating him with sticks while calling out âextreme racist namesâ to reenact a slave auction.
A parent of a child attending the school told BBC News that the incident was recorded on Snapchat where it was shared with other students. The parent says they never saw the video but that the Black student seemed âreally humiliatedâ and âapparently panicking.â
On January 22, it was reported that several teenagers took part in the incident during a lunch period. At first the head master suspended three of the students responsible for it but the decision was soon overturned by school governors allowing the students back in school.
BBC reports that the incident is being investigated and that at least 6 students have volunteered to be interviewed about the incident.
An incident that took place over 6 weeks ago is now being brought to the attention of parents with kids at the school.
The school released a statement saying:
âWe have today become aware of media interest in an incident which took place in January and involved a group of established friends and related to a single incident of unacceptable behavior within the school grounds,â the school said in a message to parents. âA full investigation was instigated in line with both internal school procedures and Department for Education requirements, including contact with the police.â
The alleged victims parents have declined to speak on the matter but other parents at the school are angered by the incident.
