Kerry Washington, Shonda Rhimes Share Moments From ‘Scandal’s’ Final Episode

In the wee hours of Saturday morning March 17, ABC’s “Scandal” filmed the final episode of its seven year run, with creator Shonda Rhimes and star Kerry Washington sharing the emotional experience on social media.

“Heading home. This was the most unforgettable FRATURDAY ever!!!!!!!! (sic)” Washington wrote on Twitter. “I’m overwhelmed with gratitude.”

The woman who brought lead character Olivia Pope to life also shared photos from the set on Instagram, including one of her goofing around with her on-screen lover Tony Goldwyn, and another with Judy Smith, the real life fixer who inspired her character.

Rhimes, meanwhile, was breathless as the cast and crew gathered for the last time on set.“We are still filming the final day, the final scene of ‘Scandal’ — still happening, not done,” she said in one video.

After posting another photo with the show’s crew, Rhimes said that it’s “getting real.”

Another photo shows Joe Morton’s (Olivia Pope’s onscreen father, Eli Pope) along with other cast and crew watching from behind a monitor on set.

Rhimes then shared that it was now over. “And that’s a wrap on #scandal,” she wrote. ” A lot of tears. A lot of love. Forever grateful for every second.”

She added, “Could not be prouder. Here is a shot of the Truman Balcony created by our amazing production crew. Thank you to every single person in our #scandalfam who helped bring this show to life.”
