Whitney Houston Home Going: And We Will Always Love You!
Whitney Houston’s spirit took command of the world today as her mother, determined to bring “Nippy” back to her foundation, New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, NJ.
Cissy Houston, in essence took the world to church today. She made sure that the world knew that her daughter was saved and covered by the blood of Jesus. it was a courageous act and Cissy Houston who should be commended for it.
If the world did not know, they know it now that Whitney Houston loved the Lord with all her heart and was definitely covered by the blood!
Her Home Going was typical of that in a Baptist Church except it made Hollywood come back to its roots, reflecting on their own childhood church experiences singing hymns to getting in trouble for talking or playing in church (Kevin Costner)
The Winans family were exceptional in both song and tributes. BeBe offered: ”What I’m going to miss is crazy Whitney,” Winans said, recounting her offer to perform back-up for him and his sister, CeCe, at the height of her career.
“Y’all broke, right?” he recalled her saying and I am rich so I can sing backup for yall if I want,” which broke the church out in laughter.
Tyler Perry or should I say Min. Tyler Perry however tore the house down with his tribute to his long time friend.
Clive Davis, Houston’s mentor, also touched on her years of struggle with drugs and alcohol.
“Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind,” he said. “Yes, she admitted to crises in life, yes she confessed to Oprah about her searing battles. But when I needed her, she was there. She was there for me — an eternally loyal friend.”
He recalled her telling him shortly before her death that she was “getting in shape” and “committed to getting my high notes back.
Whitney Houston’s final resting place will be next to her father, John Russell Houston Jr rest at the Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey, on Sunday, February 19th. Houston’s father was buried there in 2003.
