Ok and now onto Elder Bernice King:
After much speculation, Elder Bernice King announced officially today on Atlanta’s Praise 102.5 Radio Station that she will no longer be a member of Newbirth Missionary Baptist Church. Ms. King, daughter of slain civil rights Icon, Martin Luther King, Jr. and grand daughter of Martin Luther King, Sr., former pastor of the Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, made a point to advise that she had taken counsel with Bishop Long regarding her departure date back in April, 2011 advising that her last day would be May 29, 2011.
Elder King, clarified for the listening audience that she was never on the payroll as an employee or staff member of Newbirth so she was surprised to hear that she was stepping down when actually she never “stepped Up!” Elder King stated that just as she listended to the voice of God and revealing that her season had ended at Ebenezer and it was difficult to move on, she listens to the voice of God and realizes that her season at Newbirth has come to an end. While not going into any further detail other than publicly acknowledging to the Praise ATL family that Bishop Long has been a blessing to her ministry and that he helped her through many difficult times including the death of her mother, Corretta Scott King, the death of her sister, Yolanda King, the legal battle with her brother, Dexter King and most recently, her decision not to take the reign as president of the SCLC.
At the end of her interview, Elder King mentioned that she accepts the calling on her life to pastor and she will be starting a ministry that we will learn more about in the coming months. She did give a hint, though, that she would pastor a different kind of ministry that will educate, equip and empower Kings for the Kingdom!
